things i covet

Just a few little things found around the web today.

My grandmother and my mother have sets of these red goblets, and I covet them. They were made by a French company called Luminarc, which is still in business and actually only stopped producing this style less than ten years ago, so not all of these you find are actually vintage. This style is called Cavalier, and came in green as well as this ruby color, which seems to be more common. The stemmed glasses came in (from smallest to largest) a cordial, an aperitif, two sizes of wine, and a water size. They also made compote and dessert size stemmed dishes, which I really adore.

I love old forest signs. When we were redoing our bedroom with the forest theme, I was bidding on a few of these signs but I always forgot to pay attention when they ended. Anyway, I think they could make a really cool addition to an outdoor space, or even an indoor one if you’ve got sort of a rustic, cabin style.

These vintage Smokey the Bear signs are sort of rare, and as such can get pretty expensive. Still, sometimes one comes in under the radar.

This is one of those times where I wish I owned a little vintage shop on Abbot Kinney or Main Street. It says that this 10 piece set is $9, plus $9 for shipping. For the set. I kept trying to find in the description where she meant that each piece was $9, but I couldn’t find it. Someone please buy these so I don’t, because I don’t have room for them.

Okay, this is it:

These are serious. I’m guessing since they’re TV trays they can fold up somehow if you take the tops off, so they’d be great for parties. Anyway, great design.

Here’s a tip: when browsing categories on ebay, remember that sometimes people don’t put the thing you want in the right category. If you’re just browsing a decade (say, the 50’s), try the 1950s category under Collectibles. Sometimes people forget to look there, and if an item is not cross-listed, you may be able to get it cheaper.

The goblets and t.v. trays are great. Enjoying your blog, and I love that you have an MST3K link. My favorite show!

I always search ebay under “all categories”. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but I’m always afraid I’ll miss something. LOVE the TV trays, very unusual and cool! I’m enjoying your blog. Thanks.

Thanks! I know the MST3K link is totally non-sequitur, but it’ll always be my favorite show too. I love it when I run into someone who still remembers it. When I adopted one of our dogs from the shelter, one of the workers asked if she could take a picture of the MST sticker on my car so her daughter would believe her that other people liked that show too!

Thanks Lisa! I know, some sellers can’t seem to get their categories straight – it’s amazing the stuff you find just trolling through obscure categories.
