there is more to hanging plants than macramé

The cat may require a particular taste, but I love the chains and the holders.

I shouldn’t really have to sell the idea of hanging plants indoors. They add an instant lived-in, full of life feeling to a space. And since the addition of Grow on Abbot Kinney around the corner from my house, I’ve sort of got plants on my mind. Hanging plants usually come in plastic pots with wire hangers that are zero steps above what you get at the dry cleaners. You’d probably like to free them from this eyesore state, but how to hang them? Often at flea markets I come across pulleys, tools, and yoke parts that would make terrific plant hangers:

Oh, the potential! I'd love to hang a plant or chair from that pulley.

I see pulleys like this one at just about every flea market I go to, but there are plenty of them on ebay:

Also, how awesome is this:

or this one for just $12:

And these I found at a flea market and antique store, respectively:

have a great weekend!

I love your url! It can be like shopping/decorating by proxy..It has been in my Favorites quite a while.

I got a mega ’70’s macrame plant holder about a year ago. I dyed it black which came out dark, dark brown, (started as an icky mustard/rust/hemp color) it was very dry so I used soya candle wax to condition fibers. It was shaggy too on the bottom tie so I trimmed it; like a modern-day rich hippy now!

I, too discovered mixing paints to be a solution to color scheme plans. It feels like alchemy. I took a dark pea-green and mixed with dark raspberry…got a gorgeous rich brown, thank you Home Depot Oops Paint Department!

Originally used safe, generic pale blues & teals for my apartment but turned out pretty blahhh. My new paint palette is:
antique goldish/yellow color (that goes with my mainly ivory/dark sand/ and wacky 70-80’s
    orange print fabric).

I created an ivory semi-matte “custom” color for my kitchen too that came out really good.

Thanks again for your site. Have you checked out TINI next door to Mani’s on Fairfax? Looks like a fun store. I have shopped Bible Tabernacle since mid-80’s(?)…it changes periodically but prices are great for vintage stuff- a giant fab mess.

I may attempt a similar hanging plant project that you show here. Thanks for sharing your ideas!

p.s. loved the Hanawalt Zombie family T-shirt I saw last year on her website!

Do you know where I can find something similar to that plant holder?
