the recession comes in UK quad
Over the last few months, there’s been a considerable amount of financial hardship around here. It’s meant more time working and less time doing awesome things like writing for free and for fun. It’s also meant digging through old and heretofore forgotten collections and reevaluating their importance and value. I have a collection of original posters for the (excellent) movie Rushmore, including an original double-sided American one-sheet, a Japanese one-sheet, a UK quad poster, and a poster for the video release (my obsession with this movie coincided with my discovery of eBay). When poking around on eBay to see how much I might be able to sell these for, I noticed this:
Wait, what? A cool, handmade poster for my favorite movie of all time? Sign me up! But then I saw that he’s set the opening bid on these at $60. Cool poster? yes. Thrifty and responsible? Absolutely not. Sorry Nate, hopefully some of my readers can afford them. I revise my earlier statement, having made it when I thought they were just printed on paper. No. These are wood. And they are awesome. There are more:

Hey, my friends girlfriend comes to your site frequently and was really surprised to see you had my posters up. It really surprised me. I am actually really new to the ebay thing and am still trying to figure out how to get traffic. So I was REALLY surprised when she told me about your blog (Which I now love). About the posters, I am just starting to try to sell them, I put in hours of work on them and each one is the original. They are actually laser cut into wood. I am planning on dropping the price, so keep your eyes out. Rushmore is one of my favorite movies of all time as well… and I am currently collecting fiesta ware. So, love the salt and peper shakers. Thanks for the post. I’ve never had anything like this happen.

Wait, they’re wood? That’s … amazing. I don’t know how I missed that. Have you considered selling on etsy.com rather than ebay? The listing fees are super low, and it seems like a better fit for handmade things like these. Anyway, clearly, I love them, and I hope I can help sell a few.

Yea, I am working on taking some better pictures. I have never sold on etsy, but from the look of everything on there I have to have better photos. Thanks again. You’re great.

thanks nate
let me know when you’ve got some better photos and I’ll post them here … and maybe even buy one, it’s not like I can resist anything that involves Rushmore + wood. (email me at jessica [at] noaccountingfortaste.com)
